RE: full time for a couple years??

We 3/4 timed for 6 years and full timed for about 2. I loved it. Hubby decided he needed a home. So we've been in our home for 1 1/2 years. I miss the road, but love it here, so that makes it easier. We settled down just outside of Rapid City, SD. I know, snow etc. But we don't mind. Much better than fighting the traffic in the Phoenix area. We still have our RV, but do less and less. If the economy wasn't so bad we'd either hit the road more, or totally settle down and sell it.

RE: Snow - Snow - Snow

The blizzard in Rapid City has been a dozy. We're 15 miles east with lots of drifts. Still cold and windy tonight.

RE: Advice about changing res to S dakota

No wheel tax in Rapid City (Pennington County) but it is being discussed, so just give it time.
We used AR for years while RV'ing and were very happy with them. Finally dropped the service when we moved here and now have stick house address. AR in Sioux Falls is in Minnehaha County.
Altho' gas is higher and so is property tax (something you don't have to worry about unless you move here) it is still one of the cheaper states to live in and is one of the friendliest states as well.

RE: Country Coach Owner Conversation

We had an '05 CC Allure. It had a couple of headaches but CC was great to solve the problems. Not due to National ownership.
Wish I still full timed and had that coach. It was a beauty!

RE: Newmar Cypress?

We have the Newmar Torrey Pine which is a mid-level 5ver. Construction and ease of use has been very good. Had a melt down on our maiden trip and Newmar was great to work with. The plug on the end of the 50 amp cord went belly up and we lost our heater in Nebraska when it was still freezing at night. Next day Newmar got us fixed up. No complaints at all with the brand.

RE: Black Hill Accident - "How Blessed"

Glad everyone was ok. During the Rally, a biker lost control of his bike on a curve and there was nothing to cushion his fall or slide and he's now riding in heaven.
Thanks for the report.

RE: 2006 Country Allure 470

As long as they have done the retro fit for the inverter fan, it should be an awesome coach. We had an 05 470 Allure (42') and loved it. The biggest headache was that the inverter got too hot and fried. CC came up with a retro fit cooling fan that solved the problem.
Wish we still had it, but we no longer full time and couldn't justify the expense of it sitting.

RE: SD Registrations and New SD tax being considered

SD Some counties in SD already have a wheel tax. Pennington County is mulling over that tax as well, but it was shelved until next year....just a matter of time. I think the "pay as you drive" would be state and not county. So in time we'll have a county wheel tax plus the extra "pay as you drive" tax and the high fuel tax.
And then (as now) people will drive less which will = less taxes so they'll whine they aren't getting what they want, and raise the tax again. Pretty soon we'll be back to horse and buggy days!

RE: SD Registrations and New SD tax being considered

The article in the Rapid City Journal did say that (If I remember right) Oregon and another state were trying out this idea. So...if it got fire underneath it we'd be sure to see a lot of states get on the band wagon.

RE: SD Registrations and New SD tax being considered

"The idea makes perfect sense to me. If you drive a lot, you pay a lot of road tax. If you don't drive a lot, you don't pay a lot. Heavy vehicles should pay more than light vehicles. What could be more fair?"
This is their thinking and in some ways I agree, but if you register here, but are never in the state is seems to me a bit of pushing the limits. It might be a "deal breaker" for someone deciding on where to register full time.
Just thot' I'd pass along what the govt. is thinking.

RE: SD Registrations and New SD tax being considered

This must mean the government squandered our prior gas tax on other programs not directly related to roadways.
Amen to that!
When I first heard of this new "great idea" my first thoughts were of all the full timers out there driving across the country in RV's.
Now, if they only tax you on when you're in the state, that would help the RV'ers who are elsewhere, but that would hurt the tourist industry here. Can you imagine everyone having to stop at the border to get some type of "counter", then turn it in when you leave? Ya right. We have so many remote little roads to get in and out of state that wouldn't work. So I bet they say if you're registered here, you have to have some type of "counter".
I hope the legal rights folks of FMCA or Good Sam get a hold of this for if it ever went through I'd think it would hurt the RV'ing industry. It already is taking a hit!

SD Registrations and New SD tax being considered

Since people are driving less, that = less $ in the "fix the road funds" here in SD as well as I'm sure all the other states. Govt. is saying they can't fix the roads cuz there isn't enough tax dollars coming in. So our great leaders at the state capital are trying to come up with ways to increase the road funds. They've mulled over adding more tax to the gas, toll roads etc. Now the latest is every vehicle registered in SD will have some type of "ticker" (like in a taxi or that idea) that records your miles driven and then you are sent a tax bill. You'll be taxed on the miles you drive.
Oh joy! Now you not only will have high fuel prices, but have an additional tax to pay.
Nothing is in concrete yet, but thot' I'd pass along what the "think tank" is coming up with.

Don't miss Mt. Rushmore and the other sites near Rapid City. Stop at Wall Drug in Wall, SD, the Murdo Auto Museum in Murdo, SD, Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD and spend some time at Falls Park in Sioux Falls.
Lots to see in South Dakota

RE: Vehicle insurance and homebase (mailbox) in SD

"Another benefit is, that county has no wheel tax."
Give the govt. in Pennington County another year and we'll have that too. It was just defeated a week or so ago, but...the idea is still on the books. Won't be long and that will be added. They were debating on the amount per wheel anywhere between a buck and 4.

RE: Registering a new trailer in CA

Years ago when we lived in CA I needed to register our MH. Was told someone from the CHP had to do the VIN inspection. Drove to the DMV office and was told, "We only do that on a specific day and time. Make an appt and come back and it cost X amount of $ (I forgot the day and how much it was). Mind you when I walked into the CHP office everyone was sitting around chatting and eating...did not look busy. But Joe Schmo had to do the look see and he was only there one hour a week for such things. Sorry I bothered them! If I remember right, we ended up taking the MH to the DMV in Barstow so they could verify the VIN. Let's make sure we don't over work them!

RE: Forced to move by noisy dogs

We love dogs and have a Lab and 2 cats. I swear, I'm going to hang a sign on my RV that says "What makes you think I want to hear YOUR dog yap?" I agree, how can the stand to listen to that yapping 24/7!
We watch The Dog Whisperer on TV and it is amazing how many people don't discipline their dogs. They are afraid to tell the dog no and I can't count how many times I hear an owner say, "I don't want the dog to be mad at me". Dogs and kids need loving discipline or they all grow up to be spoiled brats.

RE: OMG - Alfa demonstrator on XCS chassis - $27,000

That looks like coach # 0, a proto type. We saw it when we were at the factory having some work done on our Alfa and the old one was getting some upgrades. They used it as an employee coach where they could sign up to use it. From what some of the employees said, it didn't drive near as well as the later ones. We also saw a mid-door Alfa that looked like a Bounder with Alfa graphics. It was another proto type, but they never made any more mid door diesels.
